Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakut or Annakut Puja, is a Hindu festival celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion across India. This festival holds significance primarily in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan, and it usually takes place the day after Diwali.

The central theme of Govardhan Puja revolves around the legend of Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna persuaded the people of Gokul to worship the Govardhan Hill instead of performing rituals for Lord Indra, the god of rain. This angered Lord Indra, who unleashed torrential rains upon the village. In response, Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill on his little finger to provide shelter to the villagers and their cattle. This act of protecting the community from natural calamities is commemorated through Govardhan Puja.

The celebration typically begins with the preparation of a large variety of food items, often in the form of a mountain or hill, symbolizing the Govardhan Hill.
