1) The butterfly life cycle includes four distinct stages.

2) They are egg, larva, pupa, and adult.

3) This transformation is called metamorphosis.

4) The female butterfly lays the egg.

5) The larvae grow inside the egg.

6) This form of the butterfly is known as a caterpillar.

7) After hatching the caterpillar is extremely hungry and continues to eat all day and all night. It eats leaves or other parts of a plant.

8) The caterpillar forms a bulbous structure around it. It is called the Pupa.

9) The pupa gradually grows and develops into a butterfly.

10) The butterfly breaks the outer structure and comes out with colorful scaly wings.
