Bihu festival is one of the main festivals of the state of Assam. Bihu festival is celebrated three times a year, one of which is Bhogali Bihu. Bhogali Bihu is a major festival of Assam state. It is celebrated every year in the month of January. The festival of Bhogali Bihu falls in the month of Magh.

That's why it is called Magh Bihu. This festival is related to harvesting. It is celebrated with the joy of getting the crop ready. The people of Assam take bath in the morning with ubtan and wear new clothes or their traditional dress.

It is called Bhogali Bihu because there is a special significance of Bhog in it. On this day, different types of delicious dishes Aloo Pitaka, Khar, Masor Tenga, Jaak, Coconut and Sesame Ladoos, Pitha, etc. are prepared and eaten in everyone's homes. Lord Indra Dev is worshipped on this day according to Hindu mythology as the God of rain and clouds.

People worship him and offer different kinds of sweet dishes. People pray to him for good rains in the coming months so that the crops grow well.

Everyone celebrates this festival with their family, relatives, and friends. At night, people light a bonfire and worship and dance around it. People perform the Bihu dance by playing drums and singing folk songs. Give gifts to each other. The festival of Bhogali Bihu is celebrated by everyone with great joy and enthusiasm.

Rongali Bihu is the famous festival of Assam. There are three types of Bihu Festivals - Rongali, Kongali, and Bhogali. Rongali Bihu is one of them. Rongali Bihu is also known as Bohag Bihu. It is celebrated in the month of April every year. Rongali Bihu is to celebrate the beginning of the sowing of the seeds.

It marks the arrival of the spring season. It marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year. The Rongali Bihu augurs the wish for a good harvest because this is the time when farmers start sowing. The Rongali Bihu continues for seven days. There names are - Sot, Raati, Goru, Manuh, Kutum, Mela and Sera. This festival is the most entertaining and fun. People wear new clothes on this day.

Special dishes Pitha and Khaar are prepared on this day. People worship God and take blessings. This day is dedicated to worship, bathing, feeding, and taking care of the cattle mainly cows, bulls, and buffaloes. They are washed and fed well. People enjoy this festival with perform cultural dances and sing folk songs. Some Bihu fairs are also organized where people participate in the games and other fun activities. People donate charity to needy people on this day. This festival is a symbol of dance, music, bliss, and happiness. Rongali Bihu is celebrated with their family, friends, and relatives. People enjoy this festival with great joy and happiness.
