1. Guru Nanak Jayanti is a main festival of Sikhs.

2. It is celebrated to mark the birthday of the first Guru of the Sikhs Sri Guru Nanak Dev.

3. Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day of the Kartik Purnima.

4. Guru Nanak Dev was born on 15th April 1469 in Talwandi near Lahore, Pakistan.

5. He was a founder of Sikhism and the first Guru of Sikhs.

6. On Guru Nanak Jayanti Sikhs wear new clothes and go to the Gurudwaras.

7. The celebration starts with early morning processions known as Prabhat Pheri.

8. On this day the holy book of Sikhs, the Guru Granth Sahib is read in Gurudwaras.

9. Gurudwaras are decorated, processions are carried out, and free langars and sweets are distributed to the people.

10. Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated with great joy and happiness.
