1) Edmond Halley was a famous English astronomer.

2) He was the first to calculate the orbit of a comet.

3) Edmond Halley was born on 8th November 1656 in Haggerston near London in England.

4) His father was Edmond Halley Senior. He was a wealthy soap maker in London.

5) Edmond Halley made important discoveries in astronomy,
mathematics, geophysics, meteorology, and physics.

6) In 1703 he was appointed as a professor of geometry at Oxford University.
7) He studied and examined the comets. He predicted the orbit of a comet.
8) He examined a comet that came into the earth's vicinity about every 75 years.
9) The comet approached Earth in 1531, 1607, and 1682. He predicted that it would return in 1758. Halley's calculations proved correct.
10) The comet was called Halley's comet. It is named after Edmond Halley.
