National Pollution Control Day is observed on 2nd December every year in India. This day is observed in the memory of people who lost their lives in Bhopal Gas Calamity.

The Bhopal gas tragedy happened in 1984 on the night of 2nd - 3rd December. Many people died due to the poisonous gas Methy Isocyanate also known as MIC.

The Bhopal gas tragedy is considered as one of the biggest industrial pollution disaster in history worldwide which needed significant preventive measures in order to stay away from such type of disasters in the coming future.

One of the important factors of celebrating National Pollution Control Day is to control and manage the industrial disaster as well as prevention of the pollution of air, water and soil. Industrial pollution is slowly depleting our nature.
National Pollution Control Day is also celebrated to spread awareness to manage and control industrial disasters and prevent the pollution. There are several varieties of laws made by the government of India as well as in order to control it. Indian government has taken steps for saving the nature from the harmful elements.
Various steps to reduce pollution -
1. By managing solid wastes 2. Treatment of electronic wastes 3. Clean Development Mechanism Project 4. Reuse of water pollution 5. Facility of bio-chemical wastes 6. Biomedical wastes 7. Control noise pollution 8. Plastic waste management 9. Sewage managing etc.

It also works towards improving the quality of nature. Also, the government must issue guidelines and some strict laws to control pollution.

The National Pollution Control Day of India was chosen on the same day as that of the Bhopal tragedy incident day. This day's observance was declared to make people aware of the Continuous rise of pollution and its effects.

Several acts and rules have been already launched by the Government to control pollution levels in India. The only way to prevent the social and natural condition of pollution is by taking some |strict measures.
