Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar. Ambedkar is called as the father of the Indian Constitution since he was the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee. He was an Indian Jurist, economist, and Dalit leader. He was born on 14" April 1891 in Madhya Pradesh.
He was the first Minister (Law and Justice) of independent India. He was considered the chief architect of the Constitution of India.
On 29% August, he was appointed Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, Ambedkar is one of the greatest leaders in Indian history. He is one of the great personalities and heroes of our country and he was known as a leading politician and an economist.
He achieved a degree in political science, economics, and law. He was a member of the Constituent Drafting committee. By caste based he was treated as untouchable and subjected to socio-economic discrimination.
Ambedkar belonged to the Mahar caste. They were not allowed to sit inside the class at school time. He spent his entire life fighting social discrimination against the lower castes.
He was appointed by the Assembly to write India’s new Constitution. The new Congress-led government invited Ambedkar to serve as the nation’s first Law Minister, Ambedkar formed a political party which was called ‘Independent Labour Party
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was a great personality and had inspirational life from childhood onwards. He has various qualities like efficiency, honesty, a long visionary attitude, leadership, a non-violent attitude, etc.
Ambedkar was appointed to the upper house, of parliament, the Rajya Sabha in March 1952 and would remain as a member till their death. He died on 6 December 1956 in Delhi, age 65. His popular slogan was “Life should be great rather than long.”
Achievements
In 1990 Ambedkar won the Bharat Ratna award, India’s highest civilian award. His autobiography ‘Waiting for a Visa’ is used as a textbook at ‘Columbia University. A memorial for Ambedkar was established near ~Delhihouse,
His birthday is celebrated as a public holiday in India, popularly known as Ambedkar Jayanti. He was the first Indian to complete a doctorate degree overseas. Ambedkar is recognized as the Father of the Constitution of India’.
‘WAITING FOR A VISA’ is an autobiography of Dr. Ambedkar, he included castes in India. The book contains 20 pages, written in the period of 1935- 1936. Kaushal Goyal wrote Ambedkar's biography published in the year 2016.
Family
He was the 14 and last child of her parents. His father's name was Ramji Maloji Sakpal and his mother was Bhimabai Ramiji Sakpal. His family is from a Marathi background in the Ratnagiri district.
Ambedkar's ancestors had long worked for the army of the British East India Company. His father Ramji Maloji Sakpal served in the British Indian Army at the Mhow. His original surname was Sakpal, and his father added native when he joined at school. In 1906, at the age of 15, he married Ramabai (she was only nine years at that time).
Education
In 1907, he passed his matriculation examination and joined Elphinstone College, he was the first student from the Mahar caste. Ambedkar secured two master's degrees and a Bar-at-Law. He had four doctoral degrees. He knows several Europeans.
