Essay on depletion of natural resources
Humans are using natural resources endlessly day by day, the population explosion is causing over-exploitation of natural resources with little to no care to conservate them to meet this massive population, and depletion of natural resources is happening.
However, we need to understand that natural resources are finite even renewable resources are not being given enough time to replenish, therefore, this depletion of natural resources is quite harmful to the earth and its inhabitants.
As we require minerals for almost everything from housing to business they are being used up rapidly there has been a major decline in minerals like coal copper and more similarly, the oil reserves are also running out.
We won't be able to produce more oil and thus we won't get any petroleum similarly, forests are being cut down at an alarming rate for instance, the recent decision to cut down the Aarey forest in Mumbai is a major example.
Most importantly, the way we are wasting needs to be checked right away as it is many countries are facing a water crisis and we know life without water is impossible natural resource depletion means that we will soon find it hard to survive.
What are natural resources?
there are two types of resources abiotic resources which are non-living such as water air and soil and biotic resources which are living like plants trees and fungi.
one might ask what is resource depletion resource depletion means that resources are being used faster than they can be replenished, this makes the resources scarce due to high demand this natural phenomenon is known as resource depletion.
Why are our resources depleting?
The three main reasons why our resources are depleting
overpopulation
The ineffective uses of water
Unsustainable farming techniques that aren't nature-friendly.
Overpopulation
According to the History Channel, 200,000 babies are born every day, or around 140 babies every minute that's enough to fill more than two full football stadiums and with the current rate of reproduction we are dooming the human race.
Over 22 million women in the Middle East and Africa are having a great number of children, these countries have women with up to five children at the age of just 24 according to the New York Times countries without proper birth control are the main contributors to a rising population.
Water depletion
The majority of our water is lost through the soil and plant leaves through transpiration and on top of that we are wasting the 0.025 per cent of the water on earth we can drink moreover we continue to urbanize more and more areas which stops water from soaking back into aquifers
The US uses 1.2 trillion gallons of water annually according to the USGS this is 725 million more gallons than Brazil the country with the second-most water consumption this shows why the US should conserve water better
Around one-third of our most important aquifers are being exploited and dried up at an exponential rate.
According to the USGS 1,200 gallons of water are wasted every year by dripping faucets for a house with around 5 faucets car washes can take up to hundreds of gallons per car according to the LA Times,
However professional car washers can do a better job and use about half the water that consumers use at home to wash their cars these show some common day-to-day areas in which we can save water.
Unsustainable farming techniques
Many farmers repeat the same crops because they are the ones that sell the best however the soil quality is deteriorating when they do this, if you don't rotate the crops most of the nutrients will die out and ruin the soil because in nutrients near-free various plants will be gone.
When farmers find the same crops over and over again results in a saturation of one type of nutrient in history of scarcity and other nutrients, as a result, the nutrient content is imbalanced and it is unfit for plants to grow in.
According to the World Wildlife Foundation the amount of pesticides sprayed on fields has increased 26 times more in the past 50 years in many situations fertilizers can cause the position to land adjacent to rivers and wetlands which means many ecosystems will be affected by the fertilizer
Fertilizers are deteriorating resources to the point where they are unusable other chemicals such as pesticides are deteriorating the health of our consumers, and fertilizers can also leak into the ecosystems endangering the many animals that live there.
Eutrophication ( unsustainable farming techniques IV )
Eutrophication graphic 18 is when the environment has too many nutrients or is too healthy, the main cause of eutrophication is when fertilizers leak into environments in 2007 2 million residents of China couldn't access water due to an algae boom as a result of eutrophication.
These are some stories about natural resource depletion in 1997 in New Delhi India a teacher installed water collectors on the roof of many buildings this reduced dependence on the government and was able to save thousands of dollars
Also in India overpopulation is increasing the death rate and the number of jobless people and making the environment very unhygienic.
Moreover every year a huge body of water from the inner states comes in through the Mississippi River filled with fertilizer it then enters Mexico and causes huge algae blooms
which takes away all the oxygen from the water this shortage of water also destroys most of the animal's habitats.
Depletion of nature resources PSA
Our earth is under attack the way Humanity is currently living right now we aren't using up two to three times the amount of our natural resources that the earth can sustain I turned a man earth's resources can only sustain two billion people by the year 2025 1.7 billion people will be without fresh water to drink.
1.2 billion people currently live in areas with scarce water supply this could cause a decline in food production as well as livelihood the loss of forests fresh water fertile soil in the rezoning competition for these increasingly scarce resources can lead to stability in the conflict in the worst cases fill States.
We chose Conservation International as a nonprofit organization it was an easy choice because their mission converges with our goals and wishes Conservation International has been around for 30 years and has helped more than 77 countries around the world
Their compassion for the environment has touched nearly 1 million miles across the earth their vision according to their website is to make a healthy prosperous world in which societies are forever committed to caring for and valuing nature for the long-term benefit of people in all life on Earth.
Right now if no action is taken our earth will never be the same our children will grow up in a world unrecognizable to us Earth's temperature will continue to rise and according to NASA
This will cause even more devastating natural disasters such as hurricanes and unimaginable floods there has already been irreversible damage done but with your help, we can stop any further atrocities
Helping the earth is easy you can donate to Conservation International at their website below any monetary contribution is incredibly helpful and is used to help those around the world helping doesn't just mean monetary contributions doing simple things such as recycling carpooling planting trees are all ways in which we can help save our earth with your help we can help create a sustainable earth for generations to come.
Why deficiency will define the future?
As soon as we wander over to the next E in this story -- the Environment - we notice two things: both the rising need for exponentially more resources being extracted from the ground and more waste being put back into different ecosystems.
Because we're attempting to assess here if we can justify ever-increasing sums of debt and money, for now, let's just concern ourselves with the resources we take in the natural world to support our global market.
Oil isn't the only essential resource that's quickly becoming more costly to make, harder to find, or both. In actuality, we see an alarming number of examples of the depletion of critical resources that almost exactly mirror the oil story.
We went after the simple and or higher quality stuff, then the progressively trickier, deeper, and or more dilute stuff.
The bottom line is this: we, as a species, throughout the planet, have mined the richest ores, found the simplest energy resources, and farmed the richest lands our Environment offers.
We've taken several hundreds of millions of years of the pure ore body, fossil energy deposition, aquifer accumulation, soil production, and animal population growth -- and mostly burned through them in the few years since oil was discovered. It's safe to say that in human terms, once these are gone, man, they are gone.
So, if we're becoming less and less net energy for our efforts, along with another primary resource we will need to encourage exponential economic development requiring far more energy to extract since they're depleting, then does it make sense to keep piling up more and more debt and money?
Is not it just common sense to observe that debt and money need to exist in some type of relationship and ratio to secondary and primary wealth?
