Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is a major festival celebrated on January 2, by the Sikh community across India as well as by the Sikh in different parts of the world. Guru Govind Singh Jayanti is celebrated to mark the birthday of a tenth guru of Sikh religion, Sri guru Govind Singh.
The tenth guru was born at Patna Sahib in Bihar India On January 5, 1666, according to the Julian calendar guru Ji was born as Govind Rai on December 22 in 1666 however as per the lunar calendar. Guru Govind Singh was born to father guru Tegh Bahadur and mother Mata Gujri. Guru Gobind Singh spent seven-year in Patna and returned to the home in Punjab Guru Govind Singh was appointed as a tenth Sikh guru when he was only nine years old.
He was nominated as the Guru by the ninth euro of six Guru Tegh Bahadur who was also his father after Guru Tegh Bahadur death Guru Gobind Singh became guru on November 11, 1675, he lost his father mother and all four of his sons to a religious war being waged by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb who was keen to see Islamization of Hindus and Sikhs.
In 1699, Guru Govind Singh appealed to the Sikh together at Anandpur on Besakih and founded a Sikh warrior community called "Khalsa". His Khalsa Army became very strong and they had new surname "Singh" which means loin.
Govan Singh introduced five KSs tradition in Khalsa viz. kesh, kangha, kara, kirpan, kachhera as a code of discipline for the Sikh or Khalsa Warriors.
Guru Govind Singh is highly regarded by the Sikh for his monumental role in the development of the Sikh faith. he was a learned man. he compiled a number of books and poetry collections in his life.
Before his death in 1708, he declared the Guru Granth Sahib which is six isms Holy Scripture to be the permanent Sikh Guru
Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is observed for three days and an "Akhand path" is held at the gurudwaras in the morning. special prayers area unit conducted within the gurudwaras and long processions area unit disbursed on the streets displaying the tableau of Guru Gobind Singh.
